Oakport Developer SupplyBank.org Awarded Wood Innovations Grant for Mass Timber Design at Oakport Campus in East Oakland

May 14, 2024

Oakport Developer SupplyBank.org has just been awarded nearly $290,000 through the Wood Innovations Grant Program for the designing and engineering of the Mass Timber Oakport Nonprofit Campus project. The award is part of the USDA Forest Service’s investment to spark innovation, expand wood construction, and support sustainable forest products. It will play a major role in helping the East Bay’s first nonprofit center for workforce and community use come to life.

The grant will fund design and marketing work for the nonprofit center’s mass timber construction, ensuring that public and common spaces reflect the natural beauty and environmentally-friendly approach of mass timber. By incorporating sustainable wood into the design, the Oakport Project supports both healthy forests and resilient community spaces. This investment follows $3.2M in other gifts from several philanthropic investors.

Oakport developer SupplyBank.org believes that the community and the workforce that serves it, deserve the most beautiful and inspiring places to work, recreate, and gather. This grant makes the Oakport vision one step closer to reality. Using mass timber for the Oakport Campus not only showcases sustainable design, but also strengthens SupplyBank.org’s commitment to environmentally responsible construction and community-centered spaces. The goal is to build a place that reflects the beauty of our region, history and people.
