Oakport is Oakland’s impact-focused green office space. Thoughtfully designed to benefit both people and the places they call home at a scope never before seen in California, this project brings economic vitality, new public spaces, and revitalized infrastructure, while simultaneously restoring surrounding wetlands and natural wildlife habitats to ensure a climate-resilient future.
A Uniquely Oakland Development Project
Oakport recaptures the spirit of what makes the city of Oakland great in the first place–a mosaic of diversity, art, grit, activism, entrepreneurship, innovation, and community, with unmatched natural beauty.
Community-Led Design
Most development projects arrive fully baked and are impossible to change, even with community pushback. The team building Oakport took the opposite approach. We went into the community to ask what people wanted to see in their next great community development, and we designed the project from the community up. The result? More than 35 acres of revitalized parklands. A mass timber lobby providing a grand gateway to the Bay Trail. Beautified and modernized surroundings. In a word? Oakport. Yet there is still much more to design with and in the community. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed.
Environmental Sustainability
Oakport is restoring a mile of wetlands and natural habitats along the shoreline and represents the gold standard in sustainable office design for nonprofit organizations.
Resilient Communities
Oakport will also double as a new resilience center, creating a centralized public space where communities can gather, seek shelter, and access resources and information in the event of a climate-related or other emergency.
Modernized Infrastructure and Emergency Response
Oakport modernizes and beautifies the adjacent East Bay Municipal Utility District Facilities into a new, 24/7 emergency response center and union job training resource.
The Future of Workforce Development is Here
Oakport brings top-tier office space with world-class amenities to nonprofits at affordable rates, equipping them to better serve their workforce and the community.
The campus will also include facilities for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), supporting workforce training, day-to-day operations, and regional emergency response. Dedicated space will provide capacity for employee training, equipment and materials storage, and operational staging, while strengthening EBMUD’s role in the California Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (CalWARN). During major emergencies, Oakport can serve as a strategic location for coordinating personnel, equipment, and mutual-aid resources to help maintain and restore essential drinking water service across the region.
The campus will also include a major distribution center for SupplyBank.org, expanding the organization’s capacity to receive, store, and distribute essential goods throughout California. The facility will support the large-scale movement of diapers, school supplies, hygiene products, disaster-response materials, and other basic necessities to schools, nonprofits, public agencies, and community partners across the state. Designed with green warehouse infrastructure and a fleet of electric trucks and vans, the distribution center will reduce the environmental impact of these operations while supporting a cleaner model for statewide logistics. Oakport will also create job training and workforce development opportunities connected to warehousing, logistics, transportation, and related careers. Together, these investments will help SupplyBank.org serve more families, respond faster during emergencies, and build a stronger and more sustainable essential-supply network for California.
