Oakport Campus Project Awarded $1 Million from SF Bay Restoration Authority to Advance Shoreline Restoration in Oakland
June 5, 2025
The San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority’s Governing Board has just awarded more than $4.4 million from the 2016 Measure AA parcel tax fund to six projects that will help restore tidal marshes and improve local flood protection in the East Bay.
$1 million was granted to Oakport nonprofit developer SupplyBank.org for the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline Restoration and Flood Management Project in Oakland, a key part of the Oakport development project.
That funding will go towards feasibility studies, community engagement, design development, and permit preparation for tidal marsh restoration, increased public access, and nature-based flood management at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline. Major components of the Oakport Project include the restoration of 25–28 acres of tidal marsh and other shoreline habitats, updates to one mile of Bay Trail, and new bioswale trenches to capture and filter stormwater.
SupplyBank.org will engage local residents and students from the Oakland Unified School District in the planning process to inform project designs and support community-based input for the shoreline.
The Oakport Project represents a powerful opportunity to align environmental restoration with community engagement and education. The goal is to help restore the shoreline while connecting local residents and students to the process—ensuring the next generation has a voice in shaping a more resilient and equitable Bay Area.
